Creative Biography of Girls’ Choir Evmolpeya – Plovdiv Municipality

Girls’ Choir Evmolpeya is a formation by the Municipality of Plovdiv, which has made its first steps in July 2006. The love for music, combined with years of devotion and hard work under the supervision of the conductor Dr. Rada Slavinska and the creative manager Ganka Yankova, is what has formed the character and aesthetics of the choir, which has got the title ‘Goodwill Ambassador’. More than 50 girls from 23 schools in Plovdiv aged from 8 to 19 years are brought together in the choir by their talent, and more than 36 of them attend the stage during concerts. The choir’s repertoire includes songs in 16 languages, mainly four-part a cappella compositions representing various periods and trends – from Gospel and Spiritual through Renaissance, Classical and Romantic compositions, to modern ones; from sacred music to joyful folk songs.

The choir has carried out19 tours abroad and fulfilled a number of successful projects , such as their participation in: XII International Choir Festival – Provence, France; 2007 Eurotreff Musik Ulm– Germany; Schwabisch Hall’08 – Germany; X European Youth Festival ‘Europäisches Jugend Musik’ –  Passau, Germany; VII Festival of Arts ‘Balgariada’ – Serbia; XII International Choral Festival– Neuchâtel, Switzerland; XXVI International Arts Festival ‘Sarajevo Winter’ – 2010; 46th International Festival of Chamber Music  – Plovdiv, 2010; International Salon of Arts – Sofia, 2011; 39th International Choral Festival ‘Roncegno’ – Italy;  XVI International Choral Festival ‘Voices of the World’– Nancy, France, 2012 ;43rd Sofia Music Weeks International Festival, 2012; XII International Ankara Music Festival – Turkey, 2013; X International Choral Festival Banja Luka ’13, Bosnia and Herzegovina; 15th International Choral Festival ‘Golden Fairy’–Prijedor, Bosnia and Herzegovina; 23rd International Choral Festival ‘Eustakio Barbaro’ – Matera, Italy, 2016.

Choir Evmolpeya has taken part in formal events and ceremonies, such as: Opening of the exhibition ‘Thracian treasures of Ancient Bulgaria’ by the President of the Republic of  Bulgaria –  Basel and Bern, Switzerland; Opening of ‘Museum of Bulgarian Spirit’ by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria – Edirne, Turkey; Presentation of Bulgaria and Bulgarian culture as a part of the national program and celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Bulgaria’s Independence in Belgium and Luxembourg; Opening of the Austrian-Bulgarian Cultural Forum in Vienna under the patronage of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of  Bulgaria; Concert in front of the commanders and servicemen of International military forces EUFOR at the base in Butmir, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2014 the choir participated in the Days of Bulgarian Culture in Slovenia and Croatia.

Evmolpeya choir has released its recordings at Radio Plovdiv, Bulgarian National Television and the Belgium National Radio and also has issued an independent CD of sacred music – ‘Gloria in excelsis’.The choir has given more than 300 concerts both in the country and abroad.
